Ife Oshun: Interviews
I really wish I could say I clearly remember my first celebrity interview. But I can’t.
It might have been Eek-A-Mouse, a looooong time ago when I was still in school and hosting a reggae radio show.
My co-host and I hung out in Eek’s parked tour bus, tape recorders in hand, ’til the sun came up, while inhaling 2nd hand pot smoke and listening to Eek rant about how he was not going out like murdered reggae legend Peter Tosh. He wasn’t going to be a victim, he proclaimed, and was planning on installing 24-hour camera surveillance at his crib.
Or, my first celeb interview might have been KRS-One, or Mutabaruka… I’m not quite sure, as the order of the interviews, over time, has become garbled in a Gen X haze.
What I do know is all those early interviews are somewhere on a cassette tape (remember those?) at the bottom of a trunk somewhere…along with other memories surrounded in a thick fog of smoke.
I can tell you the majority of my interviews are on the Internet. Many of them took place during my stint as a writer/site editore/content producer over at rap.about.com (2000-2005), and Editor-In-Chief at HiphopRnbSoul.com, where a number of them can be found. I’ve made it my business to link to as many as I can here, so feel free to check out the online interviews, and soon, when I have some time I’ll add to the links scans of printed interviews.
And just maybe, when I have even more time, I’ll even dig up those old tapes and convert those old interviews to digital.
